About Gordon

Gordon has been studying piano for 4 years. In his first appearance at the San Fernando West Valley Contemporary Music Festival, Gordon won an honorable mention. In his first Certificate of Merit Theory Test, Gordon received a 100% perfect score. Gordon was chosen as the outstanding musician of the year. He is currently a pianist in his Middle School Orchestra. Gordon won a LAUSD Music Scholarship Award in 2005.

When Gordon was in second grade, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission honored him by choosing his poetry to broadcast for the 42nd Los Angeles County Holiday Celebration. In the fourth grade, Gordon was spelling bee champion. He has ranked first in the class for the year-end awards five-years running—every year since the first grade. Also, in his Chinese School, Gordon was awarded the most prestigious degree in the subject of Paper Folding: “Doctor of Paper Folding (Pf. D.).” This is a rare award in recognition for his outstanding achievements, passion, and creativity. He was also selected to represent the state of California at the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. as the result of his outstanding academic achievements and demonstrated leadership potential. He went to the Southern California Swimming (SCS) Junior Olympics in 2005, swimming five events. He currently is on the Royal Swim Team.

Question of the Month

What are your most creative and successful practice strategies?

I have many successful practice strategies that are all really useful - such as metronome work , slow practice, section work, memorization, and practicing away from the piano . I use all of them for my pieces .


Favorite Movie

Pirates of the Caribbean the Curse of the Black Pearl because of the action and the music .

Origami, Swimming, Piano

 


Goals

Do really well in piano and swimming competitions and keep getting straight ‘A’s in school.
