Do you play any sports? In middle school I spent a lot of time playing racquetball. I practiced for about 2 hours a day, five days a week, and actually was 1st in the world in my age group for a short time. My best experiences as a racquetball player occurred in Colorado at the US Olympic Training Center. There were 22 of us on the US Olympic team and we would meet every summer for about 10 days in Colorado and work out together. It was a really wonderful bonding experience and created an overwhelming sense of team spirit. Unfortunately, as a result of a serious knee injury (ruptured ACL), I have not played for a while, but I certainly have been known to play some ping pong here and there. |

What sparked your interest in the violin, as opposed to another instrument? One morning when I was 2 years old, I was eating my Honey Nut Cheerios in front of the TV watching Sesame Street. Itzhak Perlman was the special guest that morning and he played the violin with Bert, Ernie, and the rest of the crew. I was so mesmerized by his playing that I immediately asked my parents if I could play the violin. They felt I was too young at that point, but finally gave in when I was 5 (the perfect age to start in my opinion). I started out on a shoe box strung with rubber bands. Beautiful sounds did not come until many years later! If it weren't for that particular show, I'd probably be a pianist today, because my mom is a piano teacher. If I had studied piano with my mom, I would have most likely been a homeless runaway before too long. Just kidding mom! |
