A Note to Parents and Teachers

Thank you for taking the time to look at my kid’s page.

With music education being such a low priority in the public school system, it is up to you, the parents and private music teachers, along with performers and arts advocates, to ensure that young people today are introduced to classical music. The study of an instrument for a child, not only helps him to learn to concentrate and how to set goals, it helps build confidence and teaches tons of other skills. Studies have shown that music instruction from an early age even increases a person’s IQ.  (Go to www.menc.org  --  Academic Achievement and Music  and read about the positive effects of music on learning.)

I was extremely fortunate in that both of my parents are musicians and I heard music being played all the time from before I was even born! This, along with the fact that from kindergarten until 6th grade, I attended a music magnet school (Parker Elementary in Houston, Texas), which resulted in developing a passion for music deep within me at a very young age. The value of music education was instilled in me before I was 7.

Since the vast majority of children don’t have the same kind of opportunities as I did, I have joined forces with my sister, Lauren, and my parents to provide a "kid-friendly" web site which will be fun as well as informational. The hope is that this web site will serve to guide students and parents to participate in music activities that will be positive and memorable. I will have information on “cool” family concerts, a list of interactive web sites for children and teens, and suggestions for summer camps. I will also have some practice tips for parents and kids.

The ‘Student Musician of the Month’ is designed for the music student of any age who is already serious in his/her music studies. I hope that students will be motivated to share their accomplishments and musical ideas with their peers via this web site. I believe that when other students read about the Student Musician of the Month, as well as the ideas of other young musicians on how to practice, experiences at music camp, etc., they will become more excited about their own music studies.

This site for kids will always be "under construction", so have your kids (and you) email me with any content, suggestions, or questions.

Sincerely,

Lindsay Deutsch
